Box Score 4 WINNIPEG – The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team put in some extra work over the holiday season as they competed against teams from across Canada in the 56th Wesmen Classic, hosted by the Winnipeg Wesmen, from December 28-30.
The Heat opened the tournament on Day 1 with two games against the Dalhousie Tigers and the Laval Rouge et Or. UBCO would fall in straight sets to the Tigers before taking a set off the Rouge et Or, one of the top teams in the RSEQ conference.
On Day 2, the Heat squared off against the UNB Reds, also from the RSEQ. UBCO captured the first set but would drop the next three as they fell in four sets.

Jack Taylor, playing in his hometown, put in an impressive showing in the match with a game-high 14 kills as he hit .400 percent while adding three digs. Outside hitter
Seba Manuel of Kelowna, B.C., would add 12 kills while middle
Ashton South of Calgary, added seven kills and four blocks.
In their final game of the tournament on Day 3, UBCO faced one of the top teams in the OUA, the Guelph Gryphons. The Heat took the opening set 27-25 and despite three closely contested sets thereafter, dropped a four-set decision.
Manuel continued his strong tournament with a 16-kill effort as he hit .314 percent while Taylor added 10 kills. Middles
Teo Ardanaz of Tsawwassen, B.C., and
Tyler Valuck, a rookie from Kelowna, B.C., were also impressive, both hitting over .500 percent and posting seven and six kills respectively.
UBCO will resume Canada West regular season play this weekend when they host their sister-school, the UBC Thunderbirds, for a weekend doubleheader. Action gets underway at the UBCO Gymnasium on Friday night at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at the door on game day.
