Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Natalie Tsang

Women’s soccer battles to the end but falls to No. 1 UBC

A 90th minute goal from Abigail Taneda got the heat within a goal but the Thunderbirds would come away with a 3-2 win

KELOWNA, B.C. -  The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team's comeback attempt ran out of time as the No. 1 UBC Thunderbirds came out with a 3-2 win on Friday evening from Nonis Sports Field.

An opportunistic goal in the 90th minute from Abigail Taneda got the Heat within a goal, but the horn would sound on the match before the hosts were able to find an equalizer.
Kelowna, B.C.'s Stefanie Young blasted a goal past UBC keeper Dakota Beckett of Langley, B.C., tying the game at one in the 45th minute. Young's goal broke UBC's shutout streak at 225 minutes, the only goal they've given up all year.

The third-year forward is up to three goals this season, sitting just one back of UBCO's all-time scoring record of nine, currently held by Courtney Hemmerling.

The T-Bird's got the winning goal off the foot of Sarah Rollins (Toronto), who potted her first career goal in the 76th minute. Also chipping in with markers were a pair of 2022 Canada West all-stars in Nesa Reehal (New Westminster, B.C.) and Katalin Tolnai (Toronto).

Talia Gagnon, UBCO's second-year goalkeeper from Dieppe, N.B., took her first loss of the season in this game, making four saves. On the other end of the pitch, Beckett recorded her third win of the year for the T-Birds.

A Canada West first team all-star last season with 17 points, Tolnai is continuing her offensive output this season, scoring her second goal in three games.
