Women's volleyball's comeback attempt comes up short against UFV

Trailing two sets to none, the Heat storm back to force a fifth set before falling to No. 4-ranked Cascades

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's volleyball team nearly pulled off an impressive comeback win on Friday night, as they rallied from a two-set deficit before ultimately falling in five sets (17-25, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24, 11-15) to the No. 4 UFV Cascades.

After dropping the opening two sets to the Cascades, the Heat found their game in the third sets. Despite trailing early in the set, the Heat used a pair of Amaya Perry (Chin, Alta.) kills following a timeout to swing the momentum in their favour as they forced the match to a fourth set.

The two teams would trade the lead in the fourth set before the host Cascades pushed UBCO to the brink of defeat. Trailing 24-20, head coach Steve Manuel called a timeout, which swung the set in the Heat's favour. The kills from Jade Bussard of Red Deer, Alta., combined with three errors from the Cascades allowed UBCO to score six consecutive points to force the match to a fifth and deciding set.

Fired up from their previous back-to-back set wins, the Heat opened the fifth set with a three-point lead. However, the host Cascades found the energy to rally and eventually squashed the comeback attempt with a 15-11 win in the final set.
