KELOWNA, B.C. - On the strength of a record-setting performance from forward
Jaeli Ibbetson, the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team clinched a spot in the 2023 Canada West playoffs thanks to an 80-65 win over the Victoria Vikes on Friday evening at The Furnace.
The Heat were led by another outstanding performance from Ibbetson, a Kelowna, B.C., native, who became the Heat's single season scoring record holder in the contest.
With 12 first half points, Ibbetson had tied Sarah Allison's record of 296 points in a season. A three-pointer early in the third quarter helped the third-year forward break the record and become the first player in Heat history to record 300-plus point in a single Canada West season.
Thanks to her 23-point effort, she now sits at 307 points, with one game remaining.
UBCO got strong performances from
Kelsey Falk (Vernon, B.C.) who chipped in her third double-double of the season, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while
Sofia Ainsa Lluch (Mahon, Spain) scored 13 points and a team-high seven assists. Kelowna, B.C.'s
Rachel Hare poured in 14 points while grabbing three steals.
With the victory, the Heat secure their second-consecutive trip to the Canada West postseason.. The team also ties the school record for most wins in a single Canada West season with 10 with one game remaining on their schedule.

Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCOÂ
On her big night Ibbetson chipped in a game-high 23 points, while grabbing eight rebounds with four assists and two blocks.
Kate Johnson - Victoria
The Vikes' senior guard, playing against her hometown Heat, had a team-best 22 points off 8-of-23 shooting. She also grabbed five rebounds and two steals.
WHERE THEY SIT
UBCO's win secures their spot in the Canada Westplayoffs, sitting at 10-9, good for 10th in the standings, one spot ahead of the Vikes, who stand at 7-10.
