KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team took a weekend split, falling by a score of 54-51 to the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday at UBCO Gymnasium.
Unlike their 41-point win, where they lead the whole way on Friday, Saturday's rematch saw seven lead changes as the Wesmen took the match by one score.
Fourth-year guard
Kelsey Falk, from Vernon, B.C., continued her impressive start to the year with an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Matching Falk's double-double was Winnipeg's Carmen Hiebert. The Lorette, Man,. product scored 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds leading her team to their first win of the season.
Kelowna, B.C.'s
Jaeli Ibbetson snagged 19 rebounds for the Heat, adding five points and five assists. It marked the third time in her career that Ibbetson has recorded 19 or more rebounds in a single game.
The difference in the game came at the free throw line as the Wesmen hit 15 of their 28 attempts while UBCO connected on just nine of 26 attempts.
TOP PERFORMERS
Kelsey Falk - UBCO
Through two games, Falk is averaging 16.0 points and 12.5 rebounds. She grabbed nine offensive rebounds on Saturday while adding three assists and a steal.
Emma Kernaghan - Winnipeg
The senior guard playing for her hometown team had an improved performance in Saturday's win, scoring nine points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She would also chip in two assists and four steals.
WHERE THEY SIT
With a win and a lose apiece over the season opening weekend, both programs sit with equivalent 1-1 records.
UP NEXT
