HEAT THIS WEEK: Volleyball takes on Huskies at home, Basketball continues road trip

Heat Volleyball's annual School Day Game on Friday at the UBCO Gymnasium highlights Heat action this weekend

KELOWNA, B.C. - Court sport season is in full swing for the UBC Okanagan Heat as the men's and women's volleyball teams host their school day games on Friday, while men's and women's basketball find themselves on the road again in Abbotsford.

AT HOME
Men's Volleyball

November 17th vs U SPORTS No. 8 Saskatchewan Huskies - 11 AM - UBCO Gymnasium
November 18th vs U SPORTS No. 8 Saskatchewan Huskies - 1 PM - UBCO Gymnasium

The Heat men (1-5) play host to a Top 10 team in the country this weekend, facing off against the No. 8 ranked Sasketchewan Huskies (5-1). Outside hitter Renn Petryk is leading UBCO with 3.5 kills per set this season while Ashton South is carving out his role in second season in Kelowna. South, a 6-9 middle, is leading his team in both solo and assisted blocks while hitting .375 percent so far this year. The Heat will have a boisterous crowd behind them on Friday as nearly 700 elementary and middle school children from the Okanagan will be in attendance.

Women's Volleyball

November 18th vs Saskatchewan Huskies - 3 PM - UBCO Gymnasium

The Heat (3-3) will look to get back in the win column when they host the Huskies (4-2) this weekend. UBCO boasts a 16-5 record all-time against Saskatchewan, including a 6-2 mark at home. So far this season, UBCO's Amaya Perry ranks Top 10 in the conference in kills, receptions, service aces and points as the 2019 U SPORTS Rookie of the Year has taken the reigns of the Heat's attack.

Women's Basketball

November 17th vs U SPORTS No. 9 UFV Cascades - 6 PM - Abbotsford, B.C.
November 18th vs U SPORTS No. 9 UFV Cascades - 5 PM - Abbotsford, B.C.

The Heat women (2-2) hold an even after splitting their first two weeks of play as they face the No. 9-ranked Cascades (4-0) this weekend. UBCO was able to eke out an upset win against the then-ranked No. 3 Cascades last season as Heat guard Sofia Ainsa Lluch dropped an impressive 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and a program-record tying seven steals.

Men's Basketball
November 17th vs UFV Cascades - 8 PM - Abbotsford, B.C.
November 18th vs UFV Cascades - 7 PM - Abbotsford, B.C.

After a weekend sweep in Lethbridge, the Heat (2-2) continue their road trip in Abbotsford this weekend, taking on the Cascades (1-3). Leading the Heat attack this year are the backcourt duo of Jalen Shirely and Hafith Moallin. Shirely is leading UBCO with 16.3 points per game, while Moallin is chipping in 13.3 points with 4.3 rebounds an outing. The two schools have split their last four matchups head-to-head including a 101-87 UBCO victory last season.
