Late goal sinks men's soccer in loss to Timberwolves

UNBC score in extra time to earn 2-1 victory over UBCO

KELOWNA, B.C - Kicking off their final weekend of action of the regular season, the UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday afternoon in a hard-fought game at Nonis Sports Field

Looking to play spoiler as the Timberwolves attempt to qualify for the Canada West playoffs, the Heat came out ready to play in this match, immediately establishing their authority on the field by maintaining control of the ball. Their relentless efforts to create goal-scoring opportunities paid off in the 23rd minute when Jacobo Sanez-Ramos of Monterrey, Mexico and Mark Perizzolo of Burnaby, B.C., combined to secure a crucial goal.

Ramos found himself in a dangerous position in the box and dropped the ball to Perizzolo who placed a perfect shot into the top of the net to give the Heat a 1-0 lead. Up a goal moving into the second half, the Heat would continue to control the play totalling 11 shots to the Timberwolves eight. However, the visitors would come away with a crucial victory in their push for the post-season, scoring twice on set pieces, including one in extra time to take the 2-1 win.
