van Geel, Hudson have strong outings in men's volleyball's loss to Bobcats

Zach van Geel and Cade Hudson each set new career-best in Saturday's loss to Brandon

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball took a straight sets loss to the Brandon Bobcats (25-20, 25-13, 25-13) on Saturday at the Furnace, as Zach van Geel and Cade Hudson both set career-highs.

Traditionally a setter, van Geel, a second-year from Calgary, led the Heat's offensive attack with nine kills, while Burnaby, B.C.'s Hudson set a new career-best marker with 23 assists.

The Bobcats hit .386 percent as a team en route to their second-straight win over the Heat.

TOP PERFORMERS
Zach van Geel - UBCO
Playing the match away from his usual position, van Geel led his team in kills (nine), blocks (two) and digs (six) in UBCO's loss.
Tom Friesen - Brandon
The 6-6 hitter from Reinfield, Man., led his team with 10 kills off .600 percent hitting, while chipping in with a season-best six blocks.

WHERE THEY SIT
Saturday's match extended a pair of 6 game streaks. For UBCO, it was their sixth consecutive loss, moving to 4-10 on the season. The Bobcats win their sixth straight and improve to 8-6, sitting in fifth place in the Canada West standings.

UP NEXT
The Heat make the trip to Vancouver for a two-game matchup with sister-school UBC Thunderbirds on January 13th and 14th. Friday's matchup is slotted for 7:45 p.m. and fans can catch the action on Canada West TV. Saturday's match will be broadcast on Telus's Optik TV, Channel 1997.
