Men's volleyball gets set off No. 5 Spartans in loss

The Heat opened the game with the hot hand, taking the first set, but the Trinity Western Spartans would come out victorious in four sets

KELOWNA, B.C. - A first set win saw the UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team get out to an early lead but the No. 5 Trinity Western Spartans took the next three sets winning Saturday's match at The Furnace 20-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15.

Seba Manuel's ace would cap off the Heat's sole set win, as the rookie hitter from Kelowna, B.C., would finish the match with a team-high 12 kills.  Third-year Henry Rempel, from Swift Current, Sask., led the Spartans with 13 kills.

Mathias Elser (Calgary) had 39 assists for Trinity Western while UBCO's Zach Van Geel (Calgary) finished the game 28 of his own.

The Heat hit .218 percent while the Spartans rolled at .348 percent.

TOP PERFORMERS
Seba Manuel - UBCO

The first-year rocked a team-high 12 kills in the loss, hitting a career-best .526 percent off 19 attacks. The local product added two digs and an ace.

Cory Schoenherr - TWU
The 6-8 middle from Waterloo, Ont., had eight kills with and recorded a team-best six total blocks.

WHERE THEY SIT
The Heat, unable to shake their streak, lose their 10th consecutive match, falling to 4-14. The Spartans win sees their record improve 13-5.
