Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Nicholas Taylor

Men’s basketball’s fourth quarter comeback falls short against Spartans

Heat rally late from 18-point deficit but come up three points short for the second straight night to Trinity Western

LANGLEY, B.C. - Tre Fillmore made a career-high eight threes and Mason Bourcier recorded a triple-double to lead the Trinity Western Spartans to a 94-91 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team on Saturday evening in Langley.

The Heat used a balanced attack as five players scored in double figures. The Heat erased a 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter but ultimately ran out of gas and could not complete the comeback.

Imoudu Ibrahim (Calgary) did a lot of the tough work inside for the Heat as he finished the night with 20 points and seven rebounds. He also played excellent defence to help contain Spartans forward Connor Platz (Langley, B.C.) inside the paint.

Hafith Moallin (Mississauga, Ont.) was the catalyst for the Heat comeback as his pestering defence put the Spartans in a dry spell late in the fourth quarter. That allowed the Heat to mount some offence and Moallin gave them clutch buckets down the stretch. He finished with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
The Heat did a great job taking care of the ball as they only recorded two turnovers which is a season low.

TOP PERFORMERS
Imoudu Ibrahim – UBCO

The third-year forward made his presence felt on the defensive end, forcing the Spartans' bigs into tough shots all night. He contributed a season-high in points with 20 to help spark a comeback attempt.

Tre Fillmore – TWU
The fifth-year guard just could not miss tonight. Fillmore finished the game 8-for-12 form three and was hitting difficult shots all night. No matter who the Heat put in front of him, Fillmore was draining everything. He finished the game with 27 points.

WHERE THEY SIT
The Heat fall to 5-11 and need to make a run in the final two weekends to have a chance at the playoffs. The Spartans improve to 11-5 and sit comfortably near the top of the Canada West standings.
