Members of Heat volleyball programs to represent Canada at World Sitting Volleyball Championships

Women’s volleyball alum Jenn Okaes, assistant coach Mark Broome and men’s volleyball strength and conditioning coach Tristan Simmonds set to represent Canada in Bosnia and Herzegovina starting Friday

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina – Three members of the UBC Okanagan Heat women's and men's volleyball teams will be representing Canada at the upcoming World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball Championships that get underway on Friday in Sarajevo.
 
Women's volleyball alumna Jennifer Oakes, who has become a staple with the women's national team, will once again represent Canada as one of 14 players named to Canada's roster.
 
Oakes will be joined in Sarajevo by current Heat women's assistant coach Mark Broome, and Heat men's strength and conditioning coach Tristan Simmonds who will both serve as assistant coaches with the men's national team.  
For Oakes and the Canadian women's team, they head to the world championships as the sixth-ranked team in the world. They will face the top-ranked USA, Slovenia and Iran in pool play.
 
Meanwhile, Broome, Simmonds and the men's team are ranked 13th in the world and will face Brazil, Germany and Poland in pool play.
 
The first-place finishers for both the men and women at the 2023 WPV World Championships automatically qualify for the 2024 Paralympic Games.
