Men’s basketball downed by Bobcats three-point barrage

Sultan Haider Bhatti (Laval, Quebec) and Travis Hamberger (Richmond, B.C.) combine for 10 three pointers for the Brandon Bobcats in a 109-95 victory over the UBCO Heat on Sunday evening at the Furnace.

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBCO Heat men's basketball team lost to the Brandon Bobcats 109-95 Sunday night at the Furnace.

The Heat tried to keep it within striking distance but were unfortunately tasked with stopping the red-hot Bobcats who shot 16-of-30 from beyond the arc.

Jalen Shirley (Brampton, Ontario) led the way for the Heat offensively as he finished the game with 17 points.
 
Gus Goerzen (Roberts Creek, B.C.) and Hafith Moallin (Mississauga, Ontario) tried to help mount a comeback late and both had quality games. Goerzen finished the game with 20 points and four steals while Moallin had 14 points with three threes.   
TOP PERFORMERS
 
Jalen Shirley – UBCO
 
The second-year guard was efficient for the Heat pacing them on offense with 17 points to go along with eight assists, three rebounds and two steals. Shirley was getting to his spots and finishing through contact throughout the game.
 
Sultan Haider Bhatti – Brandon
 
The second-year guard was on fire from beyond the arc as he finished with 25 points and a team high six threes. Haider Bhatti could not miss in the first half as he was a perfect five for five from three. He also added seven rebounds and played tough defense all night.
 
WHERE THEY SIT
 
The Heat sit at 0-4 to start the season which puts them in a tie for last place in the Canada West standings. The Bobcats improve to 3-1 on the season and sit in a tie for second place in the standings.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Heat will head to Kamloops next weekend for Presidents' Cup match against rival TRU Wolfpack. The first game will be on Friday November 18th at 7:30 pm and can be seen on Canada West TV.
