Women’s Basketball ties program record in win over Bobcats

KELOWNA, B.C. - Sofia Ainsa Lluch's game-high 29 points boosted the UBCO Heat women's basketball team to a 89-59 win over the visiting Brandon Bobcats as the Heat tied the single-game scoring record Saturday night at the Furnace.

An Aiko Williams (North Vancouver, B.C.) three pointer in the final minute of the game gave UBCO their 89th point of the night, tying a program record for points in a game and gave the Heat a 30-point lead, their second largest margin of victory.

UBCO got on the glass early, outrebounding the Bobcats 61-34 in the win, with 14 of their boards snagged by Kelowna's Jaeli Ibbetson. The third-year forward, Ibbetson, scored 17 points in the win.

TOP PERFORMERS

UBCO Heat - Sofia Ainsa Lluch

The transfer guard from Mahon, Spain layed-in 29 points off 10-of-22 shooting, going 4-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Spaniard also chipped in with five rebounds and four assists. Her 29 points are the second most in program history.
Brandon Bobcats - Chelsea Misskey

The Warman, Sask. native led her team in scoring with 19 points off 50.0 percent shooting from the floor and added two rebounds and two assists in the Bobcats loss.

WHERE THEY SIT

The win is UBCO's first of the season, improving their record to 1-2 on the year, while Brandon remains winless at 0-3 on their campaign.

The teams rematch tomorrow night at 3 PM in the Furnace. Tickets are available 30 minutes before tip-off.
