KELOWNA, B.C. – The Saturday night Presidents' Cup action between the UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack would be a defensive battle at Nonis Field, with neither of the Okanagan-based teams able to find a way past the other's goal line for a 0-0 finish.
Despite the Heat being outshot, with TRU tallying 12 shots compared to the Heat's four, an impenetrable defensive effort, propelled by contributions from
James Huntington (Enderby, B.C.) and
Alex Sol (Langley, B.C.), would force the visiting WolfPack to remain scoreless.
Strong goaltending would also play a large part in the match's result as Heat keeper and Kelowna product
Ronan Woodroffe would stifle the 'Pack's offensive attempts. Woodroffe finished the clean sheet with six saves, halting all of the shots on goal he faced in the heated rivalry match.
Prior to kickoff, the Heat honoured captain and Russell, Ont., product
Aidan Tuck as the lone graduating player from this season's squad. The midfielder has played a total of 39 matches in four seasons with the Heat, contributing five points including one goal in the 2021 season, and one assist so far in this current season.
TOP PERFORMERS
James Huntington – UBCO
The rookie defender from Enderby, B.C., would play a key role in keeping the WolfPack scoreless through the match, halting multiple opportunities through the full 90 minutes he saw on the pitch. Standing at 6-3, Huntington was a big presence for the Heat, putting up a shot late in the first half of the action on top of his defensive efforts.
Jan Pirretas Glasmac – TRU
Hailing from Barcelona, Esp., the fifth-year defender would lead the 'Pack's offensive efforts in the Saturday evening match, playing for the full 90 minutes to tally four shots, with two being on target.
WHERE THEY SIT
