Box Score 2 LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team closed out their preseason schedule this weekend as they lost a pair of games on the road to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
On Friday night, the Heat suffered a narrow 71-69 setback in overtime, suffering their fourth defeat in the preseason by three points or less.
Third-year forward
Jaeli Ibbetson of Kelowna, B.C., once again paced the Heat's efforts as she posted a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Sofia Ainsa Lluch of Mahon, Spain chipped in with 14 points while
Kelsey Falk of Vernon, B.C., and
Emily Instant of Coquitlam, B.C., each added 12.
Saturday's contest was similarly close after the opening 20 minutes of play as the host Pronghorns led by just a single point. However, they outscored the Heat 47 to 26 over the final two quarters to pick up the victory.
For the second straight game, Ibbetson was a factor for UBCO, posting another double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The two defeats drop the Heat's record to 1-7 in non-conference action, a mark they will be hoping to put behind them when they kick off the regular season on Friday, November 4. UBCO will battle the Calgary Dinos to start the season, live on Canada West TV, with tipoff in their season opener set for 5 p.m. PT.
