Women's basketball outlasted by UFV on home court

Box Score

KELOWNA, B.C. - Jaeli Ibbetson's 17 first-half points were not enough for the UBCO Heat as they fell 75-69 to the UFV Cascades Friday night at the UBCO Gymnasium.

Natalie Rathler of Langley, B.C., poured in a team-high 20 points, while Maddy Gobeil of Kamloops, B.C., and Julia Tuchscherer Chilliwack, B.C., had 18 points each as the trio combined for three-quarters of UFV's scoring in the win.

Ibbetson, from Kelowna, B.C., led the Heat with 20 points adding eight rebounds and three steals.

Lauren Foullong, also of Kelowna, B.C., had 11 points off the bench, going two-of-five from beyond the arc.

Tied at halftime, the Cascades were able to ward off UBCO's attacks, despite finding themselves in foul trouble in the fourth quarter, ultimately taking the game by six points.

UFV would outshoot UBCO from the field, 43.3 percent to 34.3 percent, with the Heat going 8-of-35 in the second half.

The win is UFV's fourth in a row as they improve to 6-1 this season. For the Heat, the loss drops them to 4-5 on their campaign.

UBCO will have a chance to get back to .500 tomorrow, when the two teams rematch at 1 p.m. at The Furnace.

Doors open 30 minutes before tip-off.
