Men's Basketball takes loss on the road in Victoria

VICTORIA - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team suffered their third straight loss to start the season as the fell 80-66 to the Victoria Vikes Friday at the CARSA Performance Gym. 

Diego Maffia from Victoria, lead the way for the Vikes, racking up 35 points. The second-year guard set a new career-high in points and threes made in a game with seven, in the process.

Both young into their careers with UBCO, Liban Yousef and Kevin Hamlet had their best games. Liban from Edmonton, Alta., put up 17 points while shooting 55 percent from the field. Fourth-year transfer Kevin Hamlet from Scarborough, Ont., dropped 14 points and added seven boards.

Jesse Vogel chipped in 15 points for the visiting side.

The Heat kept it close towards the end of the first half, trailing by only five points but were not able to control the rock, recording 20 turnovers to Victoria's 11. 

UBCO shot 36 percent from the field as Victoria shot 40 percent, while Vikes outrebounded the Heat by two, 45-43. 

The loss drops the Heat to 0-3 on the year, while the Vikes improve to 2-1. 

UBCO's next game will be tomorrow night at 7 p.m, as the team will get a second chance against the Vikes. All action can be seen live on CanadaWest.tv presented Co-op.
