Box Score KELOWNA, B.C. – It was a successful return to the court for the UBC Okanagan women's volleyball team on Friday night as they recorded a three set sweep of the UFV Cascades in their first regular season action since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Facing a Cascades squad that was making their Canada West debut, the Heat gave a rude welcome to UFV as they won 25-20, 25-21, 25-20. Despite the decisive three-set victory for the Heat, the Cascades made the Heat work for it as they were never far behind the home squad.
Sydney Grills of Vancouver, led the Heat in the winning effort, putting up 13 kills and four digs. Further contributing to the home opener victory was Jade Bussard (Red Deer, Alta.) with 11 kills and four digs, and the Canada West Rookie of the Year from the 2019-2020 season, Amaya Perry (Chin, Alta.), who put up 10 kills and six digs for the Heat.
The Cascades were led by Sadie Wilson (Vancouver) and Kristen McBride (Mission, B.C.) with four kills a piece, and three and four digs, respectively.
The Heat will look for a repeat of Friday's success as two teams will be back in The Furnace on Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the gate starting 30 minutes before the match.
