Box Score

VICTORIA, B.C. - Jaeli Ibbetson's huge 19-point, 17-rebound double-double pushed the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team to an 80-75 win over the Victoria Vikes on Saturday at the CARSA Performance Gym.

The Heat bounced back from yesterday's loss and a 10 point deficit to win the matchup, persevering with a 15-0 run between the game's third and fourth quarters.

The tone was set in the first quarter as the Heat dominated the glass, securing 20 rebounds to the Vikes' five, with 10 coming from the offensive end.

Ibbetson, a local of Kelowna, B.C. had her best performance of the year with the monster double-double in the win. She put up five points and five boards in the fourth quarter, including a key, go-away three pointer that put the Heat up for good with three minutes to go.

The Heat were able to take a lead into halftime, carried on the back of Surprise Munie, who continues to impress in her rookie season. Shooting 50 percent from the floor, the first-year guard from Vancouver racked up 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first two quarters, as she now has three consecutive 20-point performances.

Tana Pankratz led the way for the Vikes, putting up 20 points and four assists. The second-year from Abbotsford, went a perfect seven-for-seven from the foul line in the loss.

"After Friday's game, we felt outside of the first quarter we did a lot of good things," said Heat head coach Bobby Mitchell after the victory. "We knew we had to rebound the ball better tonight, which we did, and I was proud of how our players responded to some adversity in the second half."

The win pulls the Heat's record to an even 2-2, as the Vikes, now, also stand at 2-2 on the year.

Next on the schedule for the Heat is an eight-game home stand. Their home opener tips-off on Friday, November 12th against sister-school, the UBC Thunderbirds.

Tickets for home games can be purchased at The Furnace on game day with sales starting 30 minutes before game time.
