KELOWNA, B.C. – It was a successful return to the court for the UBC Okanagan women's basketball team this past weekend as they swept a pair of contests against the MacEwan Griffins on Friday and Saturday evening at The Furnace.

On Friday night, the Heat and Griffins battled in a high scoring affair with the home team pulling out an 87-82 victory in their first game since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leading the charge offensively for the Heat was transfer Surprise Munie of Vancouver, B.C. Playing in her first game for UBCO after joining the team from Simon Fraser University, Munie finished her first game in blue and gold with 22 points.

Chipping in on offence were guard Kelsey Falk of Vernon, B.C., with 15 points while Jaeli Ibbetson of Kelowna, B.C., added 14 points.

On Saturday evening, the Heat stepped up their defensive intensity as they held the Griffins to just 30.9 percent shooting en route to a 67-48 victory.

Falk shone again for the Heat as she finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds and two blocked shots while her sister Brianna added 12 points and four rebounds.

Ibbetson was steady on both ends of the court as well, collecting 15 points and eight rebounds.
