Box Score 2 KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team capped off their preseason with a pair of losses to the Winnipeg Wesmen this past weekend at the Furnace, UBCO's gymnasium.
The Wesman, who bolstered their roster with a trio of all-star transfers, finish exhibition play with a perfect 6-0 record after topping the Heat 87-68 and 87-61 in consecutive nights.
In Friday's game, UBCO's sisters, Kelsey and Briana Falk, from Vernon, B.C., lead the way offensively for the Heat, combining for 38 of the home side's 68 points. Kelsey would have a team-high 23 points, adding nine boards, while Briana put up 15 points and five rebounds.
Double-double machine and Canada West All-Rookie team member from last season, Jaeli Ibbeston of Kelowna, B.C., recorded 10 points and game-high 14 boards.
The high-performing Wesmen starters put up 77 points on Friday carrying their team to the victory.
On Saturday, the Heat were led by Ibbetson who would add 14 points and 7 boards. Emily Instant, a red-shirt first-year from Coquitlam, B.C., chipped in 10 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.
The Wesman were able to spread out their scoring, having five players in double-digit points each night.
The Heat kick off their regular season on the road at UFV on Friday, October 29th at 6 p.m. The team's home opener is set for Friday, November 12th, when they host the perennial powerhouse UBC Thunderbirds.
