Box Score 2 EDMONTON - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team was on the road this past weekend to face-off against the Grant MacEwan Griffins and the Alberta Golden Bears in their first preseason action since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The Heat ended the weekend with a 77-64 win against MacEwan on Friday night, followed by an 86-66 loss against the Golden Bears on Saturday evening.
On Friday, third-year Bachelor of Arts student and Mississauga, Ont., product Hafith Moallin led a balanced offensive attack for the Heat, ending the night with a total of 10 points. Three other Heat finished with nine points including Central Michigan transfer Kevin Hamlet of Scarborough, Ont., Keaton Souster of Edmonton and Dallas Hancox of Sylvan Lake, Alta.
In the loss on Saturday night against the Golden Bears, Hamlet once again played a crucial part of the Heat's offensive game as he put up a total of 13 points for the Heat. Hamlet's efforts were aided by Calgary product, Imoudu Ibrahim and Gus Goerzen of Roberts Creek, B.C., each finishing the night with 12 points.
The Heat's preseason action will continue this weekend as they travel to Calgary for the Calgary Cup where they will face the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday and the Manitoba Bisons on Sunday.
