KELOWNA, B.C – The UBC Okanagan women's volleyball team had a great 2015-16 campaign where they reached the CIS Women's Volleyball Championship and came away with the bronze medal after sweeping away UBC Vancouver.  With a new look, but just as hungry the Heat side will be starting their 2016-17 conference campaign when they play their home openers against the Brandon University this weekend. The two squads will open the weekend on Friday (Oct. 28) with a game that will begin at 6 p.m. The second game between the two teams will be played Saturday (Oct. 29) with a start time of 5 p.m. Both the games will take place at the UBC Okanagan gymnasium.

2015-16 Season – The Heat set a record last season in winning the Canada West regular season championship with 22 wins, and just two losses. Making it all the way back to the final four for a second year in a row the Heat were honored to host the event in Kelowna and were able to make it to the gold medal game against Trinity Western. Even with the home court advantage the Heat were unable to match Trinity in a (3-2) loss but still qualified into the CIS Women's Volleyball Championship hosted in Brandon. In the three day event the Heat claimed a win against Dalhousie University to make it into the semifinal against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Making it all the way into the fifth set the Heat were unable to match the Ontario squad which put them into the bronze medal game against UBC. In three quick sets the Heat were able to take their first ever Bronze medal at the CIS Women's Volleyball Championship and send off six senior players.

Preseason – The women's volleyball team have performed exceptionally well in the preseason having claimed six wins and two losses (6-2) and won the Ottawa tournament. They will be looking to capitalize on their new talent  when they play their season openers this weekend.
