Heat outside hitter Xander van Driel was a bright spot for the Heat in their doubleheader showdown with the top-ranked UBC Thunderbirds this past weekend in Vancouver.
 
Closing out the regular season against UBC, the Australian hit .375 on Friday night, firing seven kills while adding four digs and a block in two sets of action. He followed that up on Saturday with 12 kills over four sets, with three digs, two blocks, and an ace.
 
As a result of a strong final weekend of play, van Driel finishes his first Canada West season ranked sixth in the conference in total kills with 234.
 
This marks the first time this season, and first time in his Heat career, that van Driel has been named an Athlete of the Week.
