In his final games as a member of the Heat, UBCO guard Jalen Shirley had a weekend to remember, averaging 27.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds over two contests to set both the UBCO career scoring and assists records.
Entering the weekend needing 41 points and 11 assists to set both marks, the fifth-year delivered back-to-back outstanding performances starting with his second career 30-point performance on Friday night while dishing out five assists. Then on Saturday, he set the Heat scoring record with a contested three-pointer early in the second quarter etching his name in team history. Still needing six assists for the record, Shirley would reach the mark with the Heat's final basket of the season, finding forward Mathias Schertzer in the paint as UBCO nearly rallied from a 17-point, second-half deficit.
Thanks to his offensive efforts, Shirley finishes the year as the second-leading scorer in the conference at 20.8 points per game while his 1497 career points ranks him 30th all-time in conference history. His two steals also means he finishes the year ranked third in Canada West for steals with 42.
