Matsugu was dynamic up front for the Heat in their opening weekend of action against the Victoria Vikes and the UBC Thunderbirds. On Friday, the third-year forward scored his first career goal for UBCO before adding his second career assist on Saturday against the Thunderbirds. Playing all 180 minutes of the weekend, the applied science major also attempted five shots, including four on goal.
 
This marks the first time in Matsugu’s career that he’s been named the Heat Athlete of the Week.
