Malindi Elmore

Elmore joined the Heat cross country program as head coach in December of 2019 and also took on the head coaching role of the track and field team after UBCO joined the sport at the Canada West level ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Elmore is among the best athletes of any sport that Kelowna and the Okanagan has ever produced, and has steadily built a strong resume as a U SPORTS head coach during her time with the Heat.

Since assuming the head coaching role, Elmore has helped the Heat women's team capture two Canada West silver medals as the program has spent multiple weeks ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10. The Heat have also competed at multiple U SPORTS Championships, earning a program-best fifth place showing at the 2022 event in Halifax.

Under her tutelage, three Heat athletes have been named U SPORTS All-Canadians while seven athletes have earned Canada West All-Star honours. 

Coaching and relevant experience and skills:

  • Endurance Coordinator for Okanagan Athletics Club        
  • NCCP Performance Coach (Certified)
  • Nominated for 2019 BC Sports “Female Coach of the Year”
  • Coached high school athletes to National teams, BC records, National Championship titles
  • Recruited / developed the endurance program from 6 to 30+ athletes
  • Race directing and event management experience including Cherry Blossom Triathlon, Wild One Run and Apple Triathlon

Athletics experience:

  • Member of the Canadian team for Pan American Games, World Championships, World University Games, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games
  • Canadian Champion in 1500m, 10 km road race, half marathon & cross country
  • Bronze medalist at Pan American Games, World University Games and World Cross Country Championships (team)
  • Stanford Track & Field: 6 x All American / previous school record holder 800/1500m
  • Canadian Marathon Record holder
  • Finished 9th at the Tokyo Olympics in the women's marathon
  • Qualified for the Paris Olympics in the women's marathon
