The Outstanding Athlete of the Year for women's sports is awarded to a student-athlete who demonstrates superior athletic achievement on the field of play. Nominees will be judged based on their season statistics and awards earned, particularly those at the conference or national level. National recognition will be weighted more heavily than conference recognition. Leadership on and off the competitive surface and academic good-standing are also criteria.
This award was created at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season. Prior to 2014-15, this award was referred to as 'Male Student Athlete of the Year'.
