Men's rugby wraps up their regular season at home, and men's soccer closes out the year by honouring their graduating players on Sunday at Nonis Sports Field. Women's soccer faces Thompson Rivers in a Presidents' Cup battle with playoff stakes on the line while men's volleyball opens their regular season in Manitoba. To wrap it all up, women's basketball keeps rolling through their final game of the preseason.

Women's basketball wraps up preseason play with a tough matchup against the Calgary Dinos, who are 5-0 in exhibition action. The Heat, 2-4 in the preseason so far, will look to sharpen up before the regular season tips off next weekend, October 24, with their home opener against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. This final tune-up should be a strong test to get the team locked into conference form.

Men's Rugby
October 18th vs Mount Royal University - 10:00 a.m. - Rutland Recreation Park

Coming off a bye last weekend, men's rugby enters the final stretch with a perfect 4-0 record. UBCO will be looking to close out their year on a high note after their playoff hopes were dashed against Thompson Rivers last weekend. Men's volleyball officially opens its 2025-26 conference season this weekend in Winnipeg with a pair of matches against the Manitoba Bisons in a rematch of last year's Canada West play-in round matchup. The team comes off a strong showing in rivalry exhibition matches against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, including a split-squad win on October 9 and a full-team victory on October 10.

Under head coach Scott Koskie, the Heat will lean on the leadership of Team Canada athletes Zach Van Geel and Thys Westrate, along with key returners Seba Manuel, Ashton South, and Lucas Woelders, as they look to climb the Canada West standings. These games will also provide a first look at some of the team's newest additions, including Xander van Driel and James Tse, ahead of the team's home opener on Halloween, Friday, October 31, against the Alberta Golden Bears.

Cross Country
October 18th at BC Club Championships - 11:55 a.m. - Vernon, B.C.

After a weekend of rest, both cross-country teams will drive out to Vernon to compete in the BC Club Championships.

The meet will be a chance for some of the Heat's younger athletes to get some much needed competition this season as three rookies will compete in each of the men's and women's races, while Lucas Robertson will run in the senior men's race.

Women's Soccer

Women's soccer will head to Kamloops this weekend to kick off Presidents' Cup for the Heat women's teams as they play with a pair of matches against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. The Heat currently sit fourth in the Canada West Pacific Division, just above the WolfPack, and will look to maintain their playoff position as the regular season comes to a close. UBCO will need at least one win or two ties in Kamloops to secure their spot in the postseason for the third consecutive year.

Last weekend, the Heat (5-5-2) earned back-to-back wins against the UNBC Timberwolves, 4-1 and 3-0, moving them into playoff contention. Rookie Maria Georgacacos scored her second and third of the season, while Sydney Kolodziej, Annabelle Walker, Abigail Taneda, and Katie Scarth all contributed key goals over the two games in honour of the graduating seniors. With 17 points, the Heat hold the fourth and final playoff spot, two points behind the Victoria Vikes and two ahead of Thompson Rivers, setting the tone for some tough competition in Kamloops.

Men's and Women's Golf
October 20-21 at Canada West Championship - Chilliwack GC - Chilliwack, B.C.

Both golf teams will head to the Chilliwack Golf Club this weekend for the Canada West Championship, taking place October 20-21. The 36-hole championship will feature top golfers from nine Canada West institutions competing for conference titles.

The men's team heads to the event as the defending championship, having captured the 2024 title with a 24-under-par 273 performance, winning by 17 shots over second-place UBC. Meanwhile, the women will be looking to claim their first conference championship after finishing second a year ago.

Last weekend at the OUAZ Fall Invitational, the men carded a three-under par total over three rounds to secure a 13-shot victory, with all five players finishing in the top 20 of the leaderboard. Rookie Oakley Mayner led the charge with a third-place individual finish. On the women's side, the squad posted 17-over par overall, highlighted by Juli Alexander Carew, who fired a 7-under round to capture her sixth collegiate title and set a program record for the lowest single round. Three other Heat women finished in the top 10 as well
