KELOWNA, B.C. - The 2024-25 Fall term comes to an end this weekend as the UBC Okanagan Heat basketball and volleyball teams play their final games before the holiday break.
The women's and men's basketball teams will be on home court to face the nationally-ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Friday followed by a showdown with the UFV Cascades on Saturday. Meanwhile, the women's and men's volleyball teams travel to Calgary to take on the Dinos in a weekend doubleheader.
Friday night the Heat will host their first annual Neon Night in partnership with Glow with the Flow. At halftime of the women's and men's games, there will be glow in the dark yoga and a live DJ will be spinning tunes throughout the games. Then on Saturday, the Heat will recognize the success of their fall sports teams at the annual Fall Sports Recognition Night. Men's golf, men's rugby and softball will be recognized immediately following the women's game while women's golf, women's cross country and UBCO's 22 all-stars and award winners will be honoured at halftime of the men's game.

Women's basketball looks to get back in the win column this weekend as they are back at home and have an action-packed weekend against the U SPORTS No. 5-ranked UBC Thunderbirds and the UFV Cascades.
The last time the Heat faced the Cascades they were down in the lower mainland where the women fell short both nights. The Heat will be looking to salvage a win in the season series on Saturday. Meanwhile, the sister-school rivals, UBC and UBCO, will meet for the first of three games on Friday night.Â
Last weekend the women were in Prince George, BC as they faced the UNBC Timberwolves where they put up a hard-fought battle both nights but couldn't quite find the victory. On Saturday night, Lily Pink was impressive for the Heat as she scored a team-high 18 points while pulling down 12 rebounds.

Coming off a weekend split up North men's basketball looks to face the U SPORTS No. 3-ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Friday followed by the UFV Cascades on Saturday night.
Last weekend men's basketball started off hot as they claimed an 84-74 victory over the Timberwolves on Friday night but couldn't complete the sweep as they fell 72-83 on Saturday. On Friday night, one of this week's UBCO Athletes of the Week Jeffrey Tezo a native of Montreal, Que. made his first appearance with the blue and gold and was dynamic in his 25 minutes of action on the court. He finished the game 7-for-12 from the field while dishing out seven assists and pulling down three rebounds.
The Heat dropped the first two meetings of the season to the Cascades and will be looking to bring home a win on home court while the sister-school rivals UBC and UBCO meet for the first of three contests this season.

Following a stretch of three consecutive nationally-ranked opponents, the Heat women are traveling to Alberta to face the unranked Dinos. UBCO earned a three-set victory the last time these two teams met in Kelowna back in January of 2024.
A shorthanded Heat squad will be looking to veteran middle Natalie Funk to lead the charge this weekend. Last weekend against UFV, she left her impact all over the game and her play helped spark the Heat in the third and fourth sets in Friday's School Day Game showdown. She finished the game with 11 kills, setting a new single-game career high, on 25 attacks to finish with a .320 hitting percentage.

Following a weekend sweep against the UFV Cascades, that saw the team improve to an impressive 6-2 on the season, the men are on the road this weekend as they take on the Calgary Dinos.
Last weekend the Heat secured back-to-back commanding victories as one of this week's UBCO Heat Athlete's of the Week Jack Taylor shone for his squad. He posted a game-high 10 kills on 17 swings, hitting a sparking .471, to go along with three blocks and two aces for 13.5 points on Friday night which also earned him that night's Player of the Game honours.
