Nine Heat teams are in action this weekend

HEAT THIS WEEK: Golf set to host Canada West Championships; seven teams on the road

Heat golf teams will host the 2024 Canada West Championships starting on Monday, soccer continues push for playoffs while softball aims for WCSA repeat

Men & Women's Golf

October 7th - 8th - Canada West Golf Championships - 11 a.m. - Okanagan Golf Club, Bear Course

Both golf teams are prepped and ready to host the 2024 Canada West Golf Championship at the Okanagan Golf Club starting Monday, October 7. The 36-hole championship will feature golfers from nine Canada West institutions competing for the conference titles.

Sophomore golfer Julia Alexander-Carew, a product of Oakville, Ont., has been one to watch this season as she heads into the championship with not one but two NCAA II victory titles. On the men's side, third-year Andrew Rouble of Wellesley, Ont., enters the event with two Top 10 finishes this season.

October 5th vs TWU Spartans - 4:00 pm - Langley, B.C.

Men's volleyball is on the road competing in the Blue Team Cup this weekend as they compete in their lone preseason competition ahead of their October 25th home opener against the MacEwan Griffins. New head coach Scott Koskie will get his first chance to see his squad in action against three Canada West opponents.

October 5th vs TMU Bold - 1:00 pm (PT) - Toronto, Ont.
October 6th vs Laurier Golden Hawks - 10:00 am (PT) - Waterloo, Ont.

Men's Basketball opens their preseason action with a trio of games against three top teams in the OUA. Head coach Clay Pottinger will get his first look at his revamped lineup in action as the Heat prepare for their regular season opener on October 31 against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

Women's Soccer
October 4th vs TWU Spartans - 5:00 pm - Langley, B.C.
October 5th vs UFV Cascades - 12:00 pm - Abbotsford, B.C.

Following their graduating seniors weekend, women's soccer is on the road looking to get back in the points column as they continue their push for a second-consecutive playoff berth.

Friday's matchup against Trinity Western will be a crucial one for the Heat as they trail the Spartans by just a single point for third place in the division. UBCO will wrap the weekend against UFV who they defeated 2-0 earlier this season.

October 4th vs Lethbridge Pronghorns - 6:00 pm (PT) - Calgary, Alta.
October 5th vs MRU Cougars - 4:00 pm (PT) - Calgary, Alta.

Women's basketball continues on their preseason over in Alberta as they play a pair of games against the Pronghorns and the Cougars.  

Last weekend the women had an amazing opportunity to participate in the Nisga'a Nation's Clash of the Clan tournament where fifth-year Guard Kelsey Falk was awarded the Most Dominant Defensive Player of the Tournament and rookie guard Tsuki Tsuzuki was given the 6th Man Award. UBCO finished the event with a 2-1 record, including wins over the Cougars and the MacEwan Griffins.

Men's Soccer
October 4th vs TWU Spartans - 7:15 pm - Langley, B.C.
October 5th vs UFV Cascades - 2:00 pm - Abbotsford, B.C.

Men's soccer is looking to get back into this points column this weekend as they have their second meetings against both the Trinity Western Spartans and the UFV Cascades.

The last time the men faced the Spartans they came out victorious thanks to a late goal in the 83rd minute by fourth-year forward Zack MacInnes. In their final matchup against the Cascades for the regular season the Heat look to secure the full three points following the draw decision of their last matchup.

Men's Rugby
October 5th vs Alberta Golden Bears - 10:00 am (PT) - Calgary, Alta.
October 6th vs Saskatchewan Huskies - 10:00 am (PT) - Calgary, Alta.

Men's rugby looks to continue their dominant season as they have a pair of matches on the road.  

Second-year lock Armaan Dhaliwal looks to continue his successful run for the Heat as last weekend against the SAIT Trojan Dhaliwal recorded four solo tackles, two assisted tackles and won a turnover on defence, while also successfully hitting six of his seven conversion attempts to record 12 points in the victory.

Women's Softball
October 5th - October 6th - WCSA Championship - Calgary, Alta.

Following a successful weekend at home, the women continue on their road to nationals with the WCSA Championship tournament on the road. The Heat are coming into playoffs hot as they are fresh off of an undefeated weekend that vaulted them into first place in the regular season standings.

The defending WCSA champions will lean on veterans Cheyenne Simicak, Mikhayla Muir, Taylor McRae and Sheyanne Lawrence as they look for their third conference title in five years.
