HEAT THIS WEEK: Basketball pushes for playoffs at home, men's volleyball in Brandon

The Heat basketball teams play host to the UBC Thunderbirds this week and men's volleyball heads east to face the Bobcats

KELOWNA, B.C. - With push for the playoffs in full swing, the UBC Okanagan Heat court sport teams are back in action this weekend with basketball hosting sister school, the UBC Thunderbirds, and men's volleyball continuing their road trip against the Brandon Bobcats.

Women's Basketball

January 27th vs. UBC Thunderbirds - 4 PM - UBCO Gymnasium

Following last week's Presidents Cup victories over the WolfPack, the Heat women (7-7) are back on home court as they kick off this weekend's action, hosting the visiting UBC Thunderbirds (10-4) as they compete in sister-school rivalry action. Kelsey Falk (Vernon, B.C.), the Heat captain, will be a force against the T-Birds in their upcoming matchups, following a double-double performance that saw her hit the 700 career point plateau. Returning to Kelowna is the T-Birds' Stella Lagrange (Kelowna, B.C.), a second-year who has doubled her offensive production from her rookie season.

The Heat men (4-10) looks to push their win streak to three games as they host the nationally-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (11-5) on home court. The Heat's Gavin Ashworth (Grand Prairie, Alta.) will be one to watch in this weekend's matchup as he played a crucial role in his team's sweep last weekend, averaging 16.0 points over the two games. The 'Birds are winners of seven of their last eight with leading scorer Brian Wallack (Surrey, B.C.) averaging 17.1 points over that stretch.

Men's Volleyball 

January 26th at Brandon Bobcats - 5 PM (PT) - Brandon, Man.
January 27th at Brandon Bobcats - 5 PM (PT) - Brandon, Man.

The Heat men (1-17) are determined to turn their luck around as they continue on the road against the Brandon Bobcats (11-5). Zac Van Geel (Calgary) and Seba Manuel (Kelowna, B.C.) will look to continue their strong play as of late as the pair combined for 44 kills last weekend in Kamloops. Brandon heads into the match having won three of their four games in 2024 and will look to Riley Grusing (Bragg Creek, Alta.) to lead the way, as he leads the team in kills this season.
