HEAT THIS WEEK: Cross Country, Soccer and Softball take centre stage this weekend

Heat set to host Heat Invitational cross country meet, while soccer battles TRU in Presidents' Cup action and softball battles for the national championship

KELOWNA, B.C. - An important week of action for the Heat teams this week as softball is competing at nationals, soccer takes on TRU in President's Cup play, cross country hosts the Heat Invitational and women's golf heads to Washington.

AT HOME
Cross Country

October 7th - Heat Invitational - 10 AM - Mission Recreation Park, Kelowna B.C.

UBCO hosts four Canada West competitors at the Heat Invitational, the warmup event for the Canada West Championships on Saturday, October 28. The women's 8 km race gets underway at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 8 km race at 11 a.m. The Heat had five top-10 finishers in their opening cross country event in Vancouver, two weeks ago.

Men's Soccer

October 6th vs Thompson Rivers WolfPack - 7:30 PM - Kamloops, B.C.
October 7th vs Thompson Rivers WolfPack - 7 PM - Kamloops, B.C.

The Heat men (3-5-0) look to extend their two-game winning-streak against the rival WolfPack (3-6-1) this weekend. The Heat sit fourth place in the Pacific Division, one spot ahead of TRU as the teams battle it out for Presidents' Cup points and crucial playoff position. UBCO brings a three-game unbeaten streaks against TRU into the match-ups against last season's U SPORTS Champion.

Women's Soccer
October 6th vs Thompson Rivers WolfPack - 5 PM - Kamloops, B.C.

Women's soccer (6-3-2) is closing in on a playoff berth as the regular season enters the home stretch. It has already been a unprecedented season for the Heat who have set a new program record for wins as they face the WolfPack (4-5-2) in the second and final meeting of the year between the two rivals. UBCO won the first meeting in Kelowna 1-0 to take the early lead in the Presidents' Cup standings.

Softball
October 6th vs Queens Gaels - 1 PM - Victoria, B.C.
October 6th vs St. Clair Saints - 3 PM - Victoria, B.C.
October 7th vs Humber Hawks - 12 PM - Victoria, B.C.

The softball squad will shoot for their third straight medal at the CCSA National Championship this weekend. They won bronze last year and were champions in 2021. Last weekend the team went undefeated at the WCSA Championship en route to their second title in three years.

Women's Golf
October 9th - Western Washington Invitational - Bellingham, Wash.
October 10th - Western Washington Invitational - Bellingham, Wash.

The 2023 Canada West silver medalists are back into tournament play this week, heading south of the border. Rookie golfer Julia Alexander-Carew has been the top Heat finisher in all three events she played and is heading to Washington fresh of a four-under par round of 68 to finish fifth at the Canada West Championships.
