Weekend sweep of Bisons:

  • The Heat are riding a three-game winning streak, including back-to-back last weekend at home against the Manitoba Bisons.
  • A five-set victory on Friday was followed up with a four-set win Saturday that featured a program-record 22 service aces.
  • UBCO has not made life easy on themselves early in the new season, as they have played more sets (26) than any team in the Canada West so far.

Individual Highlights:

  • Both Jade Bussard (81 kills) and Hellen Lacava (76 kills) currently sit in the top-four in the Canada West in terms of kills.
  • Bussard has reached double-figures in kills in five of the Heat's first six contests while Lacava has done the same.
  • Libero Claudia Corneil has racked up 72 digs so far in the conference season, the most across Canada West and the third most in all of U SPORTS.

Head to head with the Cougars: (9-5, 0-2 PS)

  • These two squads split the season series last year, with both matches being played in Kelowna.
In 2015-16 UBCO won both matches by three sets in the Canada West playoffs and would go on to win the U SPORTS bronze medal.

Scouting the Cougars

Impressive start:

  • The Cougars are one of just three undefeated teams so far this season (6-0), along with Trinity Western and Thompson Rivers.
  • This includes four straight victories on the road, including back-to-back three-set victories over the reigning National Champion UBC Thunderbirds last weekend.

Impact players:

  • Mount Royal is one of the more balanced attacks in the conference, with three players already having at least 45 kills through their first six matches.
  • Outside hitters Madison Marshall and Chantel Park get the majority of the attacks on the outside while middle Nyadholi Thokbuom is coming off a season in which she was named to the All-Rookie team.
