RECAP: Heat rebound for three-set victory and split against Cougars

REGINA, S.K. - The UBCO Heat women's volleyball team won in three sets against the University of Regina at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on Saturday night.

A night removed from a thrilling five-set victory at the CKHS, the Cougars were defeated (25-15), (25-16), (25-19) as the Heat earn a weekend split. Both teams sit with a (1-1) record in the Canada West standings.

UBCO had a balanced attack on offence, hitting .325 with a match-high 11 kills from Jade Bussard. Hellen Lacava chipped in with eight kills and Sydney Grills had seven before leaving the match late in the third set with an injury. The Heat also got 26 assists from Natalie Livingston, while Amaya Perry (11) and Claudia Corneil (10) were both in double-digits in the digs category.

The Cougars were paced by Britt Davis, who had 10 kills and tied for the team lead with nine digs. Jessica Lerminiaux and Diana Lumbala had six kills apiece, but the Cougars had a whopping 24 attack errors on the night and hit a disappointing .035.

The first set was close approaching the technical timeout, with the Heat up 15-13. UBCO rattled off seven-straight points to take control. The second set saw a Heat run of nine consecutive points early on, including four attack errors from the home team.

The Cougars fought back in the third set, but eventually ran out of gas as the Heat closed the deal on the straight-sets victory.

Regina will be on the road next weekend, as the Cougars will head to Edmonton to take on the 0-2 MacEwan Griffins.

UBCO will be at home as the Alberta Pandas will visit Kelowna. The Heat's home opener will start at 6 pm on Oct 25.
