The UBC Okanagan Heat have brought in a Hall of Famer into the fold as an assistant coach. Lisa Nickle is UBC basketball royalty and has joined the coaching staff of the women’s basketball program for the start of the 2016-17 season.

Inducted to the UBC Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 Nickle is one of the most respected and fierce competitors to play in the long storied history of UBC Thunderbirds women’s basketball. Read about Lisa from the Hall of Fame induction speech. [Link

Lisa is currently a Primary Literacy Teacher at Raymer Elementary and has taught and coached in Kelowna at school and community levels over the last 17 years. Lisa's husband Dave and two children Tate and Reegan are dedicated fans and attend most Heat home games.

PLAYING YEARS:

  • UBC Thunderbirds - 1989-1994
  • Left UBC with more scoring records than any female player in history, including All Time Leading Scorer and Most Points in Game (39) and 4 national records. 10 of the UBC records still stand today.
  • Lead UBC to their first Canada West title and National Championships berth in 19 years.
  • Inducted in the UBC Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
  • Nickle is one of the very few UBC women to be twice selected as Canada West First-team All-Stars, Nickle making the team in 1991/92 and 92/93. Those same two years she was selected to the academic All-Canadian team, achieving the rare student-athlete double, twice
