Claire Meadows first season (2015-16) as head coach of the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team was a record setting year for the program in their fifth season in Canada West. Finishing with a program record 10 wins (10-10) the team under the first year coach just missed a playoff berth landing in fourth spot in the Explorer Division.
Claire was hired in January of 2015 and began active coaching duties on March 1st of that year. [Article on her Hire]
Claire has a Masters degree in coaching and most recently was the lead assistant at the University of Lethbridge, she has also assisted at the University of Alberta and was hired by Basketball Alberta as Head Coach of the Alberta Center for Performance in the South.
Claire played five years at Queen’s University earning first and second team OUA East All-Star awards and finishing her career as a team captain and as Queen’s second all-time leading scorer.
In addition to her coaching experience at the U of A and Lethbridge, Meadows was an assistant coach at Queen’s and a head coach for Alberta Basketball and the U17 Jr Horns team in the Prairie Elite Basketball League (PEBL). She was also invited this past December to try out for a coaching position with the Cadet National Team.
