RECAP: Hot-shooting T-Wolves down Heat

KELOWNA, B.C. - A hot start from the UBCO Heat was quickly forgotten as the visiting UNBC Timberwolves put on a shooting clinic on their way to a (104-54) win Friday night at the UBC Okanagan Gymnasium.

UNBC's 104 points were the most by any women's team, in any game this season in the Canada West conference.

The Timberwolves 59% shooting from their field in tonight's game was the highest of their season, outmatching the Heat's 26%. UNBC forward Maria Mongomo's season-high 33 point performance lead her hometown team to victory, breaking her program's record for all-time points with over 1500 in her career in the process.

The loss drops UBCO to (2-13) on the year while the crucial win for UNBC helps the push for the playoffs as they improve to (4-9).

The Heat came out flying on Shoot for the Cure night, taking a (10-3) lead early in the first quarter. However, the T-Wolves stormed back, going small and using the three-ball.

UNBC, nailing six-of-ten from beyond the arc and 57% from the field in the half took an 18-point lead into halftime. Madison Landry has six of her team's 14 assists in the half.

The T-Wolves would continue their steady shooting game, extending their lead to 50 points by the end of the match.

For the Heat, Jaeli Ibbetson went into halftime with a team-high eight points and nine rebounds. She would finish with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Kasey Patchell and Mira Witt brought some much-needed energy for the home side in the second half. Witt, the first-year guard, scored her first career basket in the fourth quarter.

For the T-Wolves, all eight players who saw the court hit the scoresheet. Behind Mongomo's 33 points, Rebecca Landry and Emma van Bruinessen had 17 each. Madison Landry had 10 of her own adding seven assists and six boards.

The two teams rematch tomorrow night at 4 p.m. PST in the UBC Okanagan gym.

All action can be watched live on Canada West tv presented by Co-op.
