PREVIEW: Heat set to host Thompson Rivers

What you need to know

  • The Heat have their home-opening weekend as they host the TRU WolfPack
  • The homestand will be included in the two schools rivalry in the President's Cup
  • After going (1-19) last season the Heat opened their season with a pair off loses in Manitoba
  • The WolfPack's look to build off their (6-14) 2018-19 campaign as they handled TWU in their opening weekend, they now sit at (2-0)

Opening weekend:

  • A young Heat team dropped both games last weekend in Manitoba.
  • First falling (82-69) on Friday then (60-59) on Saturday in a tight match which saw the Heat erase a double-digit deficit in the second half.

Rookie Sensation:

  • First-year forward Jaeli Ibbetson has burst onto the Canada West scene and is third in Canada West averaging 20.5 points and leading the conference with 15 boards a game.
  • The Kelowna Secondary graduated has gotten to the line more than anyone else so far this season, taking 13.5 FT, with also making more than any other player in the conference with 9.0 per game.
  • Her efforts against Manitoba landed the hometown forward with first-star honours in all of Canada West.

Head to head with Thompson Rivers: (2-12)

  • These two teams last met up back in the fall last season, with the WolfPack capturing both matchups. On the road, the two teams battled to O.T. in the first game but TRU would come out victorious (69-65).
  • TRU would handle the Heat in the second game and win (87-61).

Scouting TRU

Quick Start:

  • The WolfPack were able to drop the Spartans in both games last weekend.
  • On Friday TRU erased a nine-point halftime deficit to take the game (70-67).
  • Saturday the Wolfpack jumped out to a 16 point lead through three quarters and held on for a (60-50) win.

Impact players:

  • Fifth-year guard Emma Piggin is at the helm for the WolfPack as she is leading the team in points(15.0), rebounds (8.0) and assists (4.0).
  • Coming off the bench, third-guard Jordon Haggerty is dropping 10.0 points and her 4 steals this season is good for fourth in Canada West
