RECAP: Heat fall to Cougars on the road

CALGARY - The Heat dropped the second match of the weekend in three sets to the Mount Royal Cougars on Kenyon Court Saturday night. 

After narrowly falling (25-21) in the first set, Mount Royal took control in the second thanks to an efficient attack and 11 service aces.

Max Heppell finished with seven digs, five kills and a block for the visitors which marks his lowest output this season. Cam Vanderveen was also held in check with just four put-aways on the night.

The Cougars were led individually once again by Matt Saly, who put up eight kills and just one error and also tallied two service aces.

Mount Royal hit .275 as a team on the night while UBCO fired home 19 kills and 17 errors.

After the opening set was tight throughout, the Cougars came out firing in the second as they built up a (16-12) advantage the media timeout which propelled them to the (25-17) second set victory.

The third frame was much of the same, as they scored five straight points in the middle portion of the set and would close out their fourth win of the season with a (25-19) third set win.

UBCO (0-4) will return home next weekend to face off against Saskatchewan (3-3) at 5 p.m. PST.

The Cougars (4-4) hit the road to face off against Brandon (5-0).
