Outside hitting duo:

  • The combination of Max Heppell and Cam Vanderveen have been the most formidable attacking duo in the conference early on. Both outside hitters sit in the top four in the conference in kills per set.
  • Heppell has reached double-figures in all four matches so far while Vanderveen set a new career-high with 19 kills during the season-opening weekend against Alberta.

First road trip of the season:

  • After four home matches to start the conference season the Heat will take to the road for the first time.
  • Coming off back-to-back home losses to the Manitoba Bisons last weekend, UBC will look forward to playing their first opponent with a losing record.
  • Both Manitoba (3-1) and Alberta (3-1) figure to be some of Canada West's best this season in what was a tough opening schedule for UBCO.

Head to head with Mount Royal (2-12)

  • UBCO fell in both matchups with the Cougs' last season and only have two victories in this series since their debut in Canada West back in 2011.
  • The two victories came in 2017 and 2013, with only three players from that 2017 squad still on the current roster.

Scouting the Cougars

New look team:

  • Mount Royal would lose four starters off last year's squad that qualified for the U SPORTS National Championship in Quebec and the new look roster has struggled a little in the early going.

  • After a 2-1 start to the season, they have failed to pick up a victory in their last three matches, all four-set losses on the road.

Players to keep an eye on:

  • Trent Mounter has been one of the best outside hitters so far this season as he has racked up 82 kills, the second-most in the conference through six games.

  • Mounter also has one of the best individual games so far this season, as he put up 22 kills in the team's five-set win over Manitoba in late October.

  • Middle Luis Lange is coming off a season in which he was named to the Canada West All-Rookie team and remains one of the best blockers in the conference, racking up 18 blocks through just six matches.
