LANGLEY, BC – The UBC Okanagan Heat finished the third set strong but were unable to topple the top-ranked Trinity Western Spartans fall 3-0 on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C.
The loss for the Heat men's volleyball team allowed the home Spartans to complete the weekend sweep in week two of Canada West volleyball competition.
The 25-14, 25-17, 29-27 victory improved the No. 1 Spartans to 4-0 in Canada West conference play, while the loss drops the Heat to 0-4.
Heat scoring leaders
A pair of fifth years led the UBCO offense with Lars Bornemann with 13 kills on 26 swings (.269) and Josh Harvey with eight kills on 18 attacks (.278).
Jon Russo handled the setting duties and served up 26 assists and a service ace.
Spartans scoring leaders
The two-headed effective Spartan attack was spearheaded by Jacob Kern and Eric Loeppky the duo had 14 and 11 kills each with Loeppky hitting .647 and Kern .435.

Trinity got to the technical timeout first up 16-10 in the first set and then cruised from there scoring nine of the next 13 points.
The second set was 12-12 before a pair of five point runs for TWU allowed the home team to ice the set 25-17.
UBCO had a two-point lead consistently in the third set hitting the technical timeout 16-14 and led until the Spartans pulled in even at 20. The teams traded points until 27-27 when the Heat gave TWU a point on a service error for the sideout and then finishing the match off with a Heat attack error.
UBC Okanagan will head home to host the Mount Royal Cougars on November 3 and 4 while the Spartans will have a bye weekend before heading to Manitoba to face the Brandon Bobcats on November 10 and 11.
