KELOWNA, BC - The Heat men's volleyball program has added Zac Gotmy to the roster ahead of the upcoming 2017/18 season.

Gotmy is a 5'10" Libero, coming to UBC Okanagan from Calgary, where he played his high school and club ball, with Western Canada High School and with the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club respectively.

In his six years playing the game Zac has earned 13U and 14U Provincial Championships and a 14U National Championship, played on Team Alberta's 15/16U beach squads, and been chosen for the 16U and 17/18U Team Alberta sides.

"I chose UBCO because of the amazing city it is located in, the great program opportunities, and to play on a team that works hard and has fun doing it," said Gotmy, and added, "I can't wait to be part of the process."

Gotmy's future Heat coach said of him, "Zac plays the game with an ubridled passion and enthusiasm that's contagious. He's also tremendously competitive. I look forward to the day-to-day libero battles that will help drive our program forward."

Zac, whose father Jim Gotmy was also a CIS student-athlete as a setter at Mount Royal, plans to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree at UBC Okanagan before going on to law school.

With incumbent libero Eli Risso going into his third season and Jason Scott untested as a freshman last season Gotmy will add some much needed depth at the invaluable libero position at the Canada West level of men's volleyball.

The rest of Brad Hudson's recruiting class is: Caleb Funk (6-7 M, Strathmore); Max Heppell (6-4 LS, Langley-Langley Fundamental); Morgan Nichols (6-2 S, Lake Country-George Elliot); Lucas Robertson (6-4 S, Edmonton-Strathcona Composite High, Grande Prairie Regional College); Tristan Simmonds (6-2 LS, Edmonton- Grande Prairie-Grande Prairie Composite High, Grande Prairie Regional College); Tilon (TJ) Ward (6-8 M, Kelowna-Kelowna Christian).

The upcoming season schedule for the Canada West volleyball team will be released on Wednesday, June 21st. Check for details at goheat.ca.
