Men's second star – Mitch McCaw
UBC Okanagan Heat soccer
Game log: Saturday, Sept. 23 – seven-save shutout in 2-0 W @ Calgary / Sunday, Sept. 24 – five-save shutout in 0-0 D @ Mount Royal.
Looking for points to keep pace in the Pacific Division playoff race, UBC Okanagan Heat goalkeeper Mitch McCaw did not allow a goal over the weekend to lead the Heat to a win and a draw over the team's two-day road swing through Calgary.
McCaw, a Canada West All-Star last season, made 12 saves total, seven against Calgary in UBCO's 2-0 win, and five in a scoreless draw at Mount Royal.
The game on Sunday left no margin of error for the UBCO keeper with MRU maintaining the majority of the possession, while the Heat offence only forced McCaw's counterpart to make a single save.
In the Saturday match, the Heat were up just a single goal with Calgary spending a good portion of the match looking for the equalizer and peppering McCaw with shots. It wasn't until the 88th minute that UBCO netted an insurance marker and McCaw could rest easy.
With the four-point weekend, UBC Okanagan returns home to play two important divisional foes in the Trinity Western Spartans and the UFV Cascades this Saturday and Sunday.
