RECAP: Heat men fall in Langley

Langley, B.C. - A pair of goals for the Trinity Western Spartans, courtesy of Elie Gindo and Austin Kasian, were a bit too much for the UBC Okanagan Heat men's side to overcome on Saturday night. The final score was 2-1 for the home side as Gindo was the difference maker late to break a 1-1 tie in the 89th minute.

The first half was a draw as neither side was able to push a marker past the capable keepers. Mitch McCaw for the Heat and Sebastian Colyn for the Spartans were both up to the task on Saturday night.

The second half started with TWU netting the first goal of the match to take the lead for 15 minutes before UBCO evened the match. The two teams searched for the game winner for until near the regulation when the home squad took the lead for good.

Career Milestone:

The lone goal on the night for the Heat was scored by freshman Sam MacDonald early in the 63rd minute. It was MacDonald's first career goal for UBCO, and it evened the match up at a goal apiece until the draw was broken by the Spartans with just over a minute of regulation left to play.

Key Performance:

Nikhil Reddy, now a relative veteran midfielder for the Heat, contributed an assist on the MacDonald goal. Playing 87 minutes, Reddy maintained his presence as a force for the Heat on the pitch, continuing his recognizably fast-paced play and antagonism of the opposing side. The assist was on a well-placed corner kick that landed perfectly in MacDonald's path for a header.

Cards:

The Heat's Sean Pilcher was out for the match after receiving a pair of yellow cards in Friday night's game against the UFV Cascades, and a pair of yellow cards were earned on Saturday night as well, with one earned by each side. MacDonald was given a yellow in the 59th minute, just a few before he scored his first career goal. For the Spartans, Matthew Roxburgh earned a yellow in the 75th.

What's Next:

The UBC Okanagan Heat (1-3-0) will play next against the Saskatchewan Huskies (4-2-0) on Friday, September 15 at Nonis Field in Kelowna, B.C. For the Spartans (2-1-3), their next matchup will be with the Lethbridge Pronghorns (1-3-2) in Langley, B.C. also on September 15.
