VICTORIA – In their final tournament on the fall schedule, the Heat men's golf team travel to Vancouver for the 36-hole Vikes Shootout on Monday and Tuesday at Cordova Bay Golf Club.
Coming off a fourth-place finish at the Canada West Championship last weekend, the same starting five will travel to Victoria as they look to get some revenge on the hometown Vikes who finished three shots ahead of them last weekend.
The fourth place finish last weekend earned the Heat men their first ever invitation to the Golf Canada University and College Championship next spring in Quebec.
Lefty Nik Federko is coming off his best weekend in his young career as he finished in solo-fourth individually thanks to rounds of 67 and 75 to finish the tournament at 2-under. Aberdeen Hall graduate Cole Wilson finished tied-13th at the Bear last weekend following rounds of 73 and 76. Ethan Hunt, Marcus Apchin and Oliver Rizun would all finish in a tie for 16th in the conference championship after a two-day total of six-over par.
These five men have started in every tournament so far and are looking to fine-tune their games coming into the final weekend of the fall schedule.
The newly crowned Canada West Champion UFV Cascades headline an extremely strong field on Vancouver Island as six teams will compete for the team title. The Victoria Vikes will look to contend this weekend as they are coming off a bronze medal last week in Kelowna. The three other teams competing in the event include the Calgary Dinos, Alberta Golden Bears and Lethbridge.
About Cordova Bay Golf Club:
The parkland-style championship course should test the players this weekend as its nearly 6800 yards from the back tees. Cordova features five par-threes, including the sixth hole which could be one of the toughest par-three in the province at 230 yards. Another hole that will play a key part in the tournament is the reachable par-five 18th that is a great risk-reward hole to finish.
