Starting 2020 on the right foot:

  • The Heat head to Edmonton looking for their first win of the season after an unsuccessful stint in Victoria, losing both games to start 2020.

Players to watch:

  • Philip Okanlawon was a bright spot for UBCO last weekend, connecting on three treys in both games. The third-year guard sits ninth in total threes made in the conference this season
  • Second-year guard Hafith Moallin will be looking forward to a bounce-back weekend in a big way for the Heat. After coming off the bench for only the second time this year, he finished with a season-low two points in just 11 minutes.

Head to head with Alberta: (0-4)

  • The Heat are yet to win a match against the Golden Bears, with the last meeting between these two in November 2017
  • Although the Heat stuck with what was the highest-ranked team in Western Canada at the time for their first game, a (92-81) loss, Alberta rebounded for a 50-point win the next day (89-39).
  • Only once has UBCO played at U of A, In January of 2013 was the only other tilt in Edmonton between these two with the home Bears walking away with an (84-64) win.

Scouting Alberta

The No. 5 Golden Bears:

  • Alberta lives beyond the arc, owning the second-highest three-point per game average in Canada West while holding their opponents to the lowest three-point percentage
  • The team is averaging nearly 10 steals a game while forcing more than 15 turnovers
  • The Bears' last matchup was a thrilling double-overtime win against Regina which saw five of its team finish in double-digit scoring

Players to watch

  • Sophomore forward, and Canada West rookie of the year, Adam Paige is leading the way offensively for Alberta, pouring in 13.2 points and adding four boards per game
  • The Golden Bears go-to man from beyond the arc this season is Ivan Ikomey. The senior guard owns the third-highest total for treys made this season. Over 76 percent of his 13 points per game this year have come from three-point land
