Joining UBCO straight out of the Edge School for Athletes in Calgary, the 6’7” Imoudu Ibrahim’s, who goes by the nickname ‘Mo’ first year with the UBCO Heat men’s basketball team was last year, 2019-20.

The true freshman play in all 20 games for the Heat, making 12 starts, and compiling the fourth-most minutes played on the entire roster with over 400.  The forward shot over 50 per cent from the floor for the year, and finished with a pair of double-doubles.

The UBCO management student was just as much of a presence on the offensive glass as the defensive this year. Mo tallied an equal number of boards, 52, on both ends of the floor.

Looking forward to returning to the Okanagan campus soon to resume working with head coach Clay Pottinger, Mo found the choice of UBCO a layup.

“I enjoyed playing for coach Clay [Pottinger] in the 2017 Canada Summer Games and I wanted to continue playing for him. That combined with UBCO’s excellent academic’s... it was a no brainer.”

Probably soccer, besides basketball it's my favourite sport.

Would you rather write a final exam or a 10-page paper?

I'd rather write the paper any day of the week, finals are too stressful.

Sam started her career like no other golfer ever has with the Heat. The third-year human kinetics student, in the fall of 2018, won her first two tournaments with UBCO.

That first year ended up magical for Copeland as she played in five tournaments that season and finishing first or second in four of them. At the national championships, her fifth tournament of the year, the Calgarian finished top-10 in the nation, eighth overall.

Her second season was highlighted by being the lead golfer on the Heat team that hosted the inaugural Canada West golf championships.

Copeland, who stayed in the Okanagan this summer to work on her game, has also taken up teaching junior golfers as well, found the combination of academics and athletics at UBCO alluring.

“The school offers a great education along with the opportunity to play the sport I love at a competitive level that would challenge me.”
