RunJumpThrowWheel (Ages 6-11)

A basis for sport skill development in youth:

Sport and active living is an important part of life. Introducing children to the fundamental movement skills for sport is key to long term participation, confidence and enjoyment in sports.

The Athletics Canada Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel (RJTW) program makes a positive contribution to motor skill acquisition by using a fun interactive approach to learning the skills of running, jumping, throwing and wheeling. RJTW programs are designed to give children a strong background in sports skills that not only serve them well in the sport of track and field but also an important skill set for other sports and physical activities.

The mechanics of running, jumping and throwing are most beneficial when introduced during a child's peak motor skill development window occurring between 8 and 12 years of age. But can be taught later in life as well. The basis of RJTW can be used to provide a fun approach to learning track and field events through relays and gameplay while building fitness and overall confidence in physical literacy.  We will divide campers into small groups that rotate through various stations to develop skills and exposure to the track and field disciplines.  On the final day, we will have a jamboree style track meet with some friendly team competitions.

High School Running Camp (Ages 12-17)

What better way to kick off your fall cross country season than through an intensive week of running and meeting fellow cross country runners from around BC and Alberta?  This camp will be limited to 18 runners who want to become a better runner - not only will we train hard, but we will have an opportunity for you to learn more about running, strength training, stretching, recovering, sport psychology and nutrition.  Best of all, you will meet other great runners who inspire you to be your best.  We will make sure to plan time for fun and games too - running isn’t just about running all the time!

We are working hard to ensure Heat Summer Camp is fun and skill-based. All participants will be contacted once the camp format is confirmed / If there aren’t enough participants, camps will not run
